Praying for the Spirit – a gentle reminder

Before his ascension Jesus told the disciples to wait in Jerusalem, for he would send them the promise of the Father, the Holy Spirit… but they want to make sure he indeed does…

After Jesus ascended to the Father the disciples returned to Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives, which is only a Sabbath day's journey from Jerusalem. When they had entered, they went up into the upper room where they were staying. Peter, James, John, and Andrew; Philip and Thomas; Bartholomew and Matthew; James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot; and Judas the son of James were present.

They were about to start their prayer session when Peter stood up and said, "Brothers and sisters, the Lord has promised us that he would send us the Holy Spirit, and by being baptized with it we would receive power to become his witnesses. But what if he forgets it? I exhort you, brothers and sisters, that we should gently remind him by prayer, just to make sure he would remember his promise… Otherwise, we cannot fulfill the mission!…

Therefore, they all continued with one accord in prayer, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers…
